The Score – Revolution
When Two Songwriters Decided Their Own Songs Were Too Good to Give Away
When Eddie Anthony Ramirez and Edan Chai Dover met through a mutual friend at Universal Motown, they were aspiring songwriters hoping to craft hits for other artists. They landed their first major label cut quickly, but then something unexpected happened. The songs they kept writing sounded less like pop tracks for hire and more like something they needed to perform themselves. Released as a single in January 2017 and included on the Myths & Legends EP on April 14, 2017, before appearing on their debut album ATLAS on October 13, 2017, “Revolution” became one of the defining tracks that showcased The Score’s ability to blend hip-hop production with arena rock power, creating music that felt equally at home in sports highlights and personal playlists.
While “Revolution” didn’t chart on the Billboard Hot 100, it became a significant streaming success and fan favorite from ATLAS. The album itself marked The Score’s full arrival as a major label act under Republic Records, following the breakthrough success of their gold-certified single “Unstoppable.” The track’s driving energy and motivational message made it a natural fit for the band’s Revolution Tour in fall 2018, where they headlined shows with special guest The Orphan, The Poet. The song demonstrated The Score’s growing confidence in their sound, building on the momentum that had taken them from unsigned SoundCloud uploads to Republic Records artists in just a few years.
The creation of “Revolution” reflects the duo’s evolving partnership and their unique creative process. Anthony, an Orange County native who taught himself guitar while cranking his dad’s classic rock records, brought melodic sensibility and rock energy. Dover, a New York native with classical training as a jazz pianist who had spent years playing jazz clubs in Manhattan, contributed intricate production and sophisticated arrangements. The song was co-written with Serena Lauren Ryder, Todd Sherman Clark, and Derek Fuhrmann, expanding beyond their usual two-person writing sessions. This collaboration allowed them to push their sound in new directions while maintaining the core elements that made The Score distinctive.
Musically, “Revolution” showcases everything that makes The Score compelling. The track opens with pulsing drums and builds to an explosive chorus built around the refrain “All my wolves begin to howl, wake me up the time is now.” Dover’s production combines hip-hop influenced drums with layers of keyboards and atmospheric textures, while Anthony’s vocals deliver the kind of rallying cry that fills arenas. The song sits comfortably in G-sharp minor at 86 BPM, with high energy levels that made it perfect for sync placements and sporting events. It’s the sound of a band that had learned exactly what worked for them, refining the template they’d established with earlier hits into something even more powerful.
ATLAS represented everything The Score had been working toward since forming in New York City back in 2011. After starting with demos on SoundCloud and weekly YouTube covers they called ScoreSundays, they’d built a following at venues like Rockwood Music Hall before making the risky move to Los Angeles. Their independent single “Oh My Love” became a viral sensation in the UK, hitting number one on the Spotify UK Viral Chart and landing in a major Asda supermarket campaign, which led directly to their Republic Records deal. ATLAS included not just “Revolution” but also “Unstoppable,” “Legend,” “Never Going Back,” and other tracks that would define their career. The album went on to generate hundreds of millions of streams and established The Score as one of the premier acts in motivational alternative rock.
The Myths & Legends EP, which first introduced “Revolution” alongside “Legend,” received a stripped version released on August 11. These acoustic reimaginings showed different dimensions of the songs, proving they worked just as well with minimal production as they did with Dover’s full studio treatment. The duo often performed stripped versions at smaller shows when bringing a full band wasn’t practical, and these versions revealed the strong songwriting foundation beneath the arena-ready production. “Legend” would go on to be featured in the soundtracks for NHL 18, Asphalt 9: Legends, and Apex Legends, demonstrating the broad appeal of The Score’s music across gaming and sports.
“Revolution” remains a perfect encapsulation of what The Score does best: creating music about overcoming adversity and finding strength in moments of weakness. For a duo that risked everything by leaving steady work as behind-the-scenes songwriters to become performers, the themes of revolution and transformation weren’t just lyrical concepts but lived experiences. The song continues to resonate with fans who’ve helped The Score rack up more than five billion streams across their catalog. Whether you’re discovering them for the first time or revisiting their early work, “Revolution” stands as a defining moment when two talented songwriters proved they were meant to be on stage themselves, not just writing for others.
