Miley Cyrus – Golden Burning Sun
Miley Cyrus wrote “Golden Burning Sun” years ago, cut it from an album, and gave it away to another artist — then reworked it, took it back, and just gave it a brand-new video.
Some songs travel a strange road to the version you finally hear. “Golden Burning Sun” is one of them. Miley Cyrus originally wrote it for her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation, then cut it before release and handed it off to another artist entirely. It might have stayed gone. Instead she circled back, reworked it from the ground up, reclaimed it as her own, and placed it on her 2025 album Something Beautiful — and now, in the summer of 2026, she has given the reclaimed song a brand-new official video. It’s the rare pop record that was written, abandoned, gifted away, and then pulled back home.

On the album, the track carries the fuller title “Golden Burning Sun (Surrender),” and surrender is exactly its subject. It’s a soaring, romantic song about young, all-in devotion — the dizzy certainty of wanting one person completely, of building an imagined life with them, of promising never to let them down. Cyrus wrote it with a deep bench of collaborators, including Bibi Bourelly, Tobias Jesso Jr., Michael Pollack, and producer Shawn Everett, and its reworked form leans into the widescreen, emotionally open sound that defines the record it landed on. Where the original was a discarded sketch, the version the world now knows is something grander and more resolved — a song that found its real shape only after being given away and won back.
Part of something beautiful
“Golden Burning Sun” doesn’t stand alone. It belongs to Something Beautiful, Cyrus’s ninth studio album and her most conceptually ambitious project — a visual album built as much around fashion and film as around music. The record premiered as a visual piece at the Tribeca Festival, was produced in close collaboration with Shawn Everett, and was framed by striking imagery, including album artwork shot by the fashion photographer Glen Luchford with Cyrus wearing archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture. Within that world, “Golden Burning Sun” functions as one of its most openly romantic moments, a bright center of gravity in an album otherwise interested in transformation and beauty in all its forms.
A new chapter for a reclaimed song
The freshly released video gives the song a second life beyond the album cycle, arriving more than a year after Something Beautiful first landed. For Cyrus, who has spent the past few years moving fluidly between blockbuster balladry, film soundtracks, and this kind of fashion-forward art-pop, it’s another reminder of how deliberately she now controls her own catalog — down to reclaiming a song she once let go. “Golden Burning Sun” began as a castoff and became, in the end, one of the more quietly telling entries in her recent work: proof that in Cyrus’s hands, even a song she gave away could find its way back and bloom into something worth watching all over again.
