This song written by Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller was named Song of the Year at the 39th Annual Nashville Songwriters Hall Fame induction ceremony in Nashville.
The song originated with an actual incident that happened to Gorley when his kids were running around as his repairman was working. The maintenance guy told him and his wife he’s got two babies of his own, aged 36 and 23.
Gorley explained to American Songwriter that he told Lee Thomas Miller the story, saying “Hey, this happened, I feel like there’s a song in there somewhere.'”
They decided on the “You’re Gonna Miss This” title and started working on different angles.
