Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen remembered her as “a real sweetheart” whose voice and presence “helped launch a dream.” Bassist Jack Casady called her “the den mother of our early days,” someone who brought steadiness and care to a band caught up in the whirlwind of the 1960s. Marty Balin, who had first invited her into the group, imagined a reunion in the afterlife: “I like to think we’ll start another band together someday.”
