AC/DC Music Videos
Australian hard rock band · 1973–present
The Australian hard rock band that reduced rock and roll to its essentials and conquered the world with what was left. Brothers Malcolm and Angus Young formed AC/DC in Sydney in 1973, and the band found its voice when Bon Scott joined as singer in 1974. They spent the rest of the decade grinding across Australia, Europe and America one club at a time. High Voltage, Let There Be Rock and Powerage built the foundation, with songs like Let There Be Rock setting the template. Highway to Hell, released on July 27, 1979, delivered the American breakthrough on the back of Highway to Hell and Touch Too Much. Scott died on February 19, 1980, less than seven months later, at 33.
With new singer Brian Johnson, AC/DC recorded Back in Black as a tribute to Scott, and the album led by Back in Black is widely cited as the second-best-selling in history. The band has sold more than 200 million records, entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and carried into a new decade with the 1990 single Thunderstruck. After Malcolm Young's death in 2017, Power Up topped the charts in 21 countries in 2020, and the world tour named for it ran from 2024 into 2026. Two statues of Bon Scott, in Kirriemuir, Scotland, and Fremantle, Australia, bookend the story of a band that never changed the formula, because the formula never stopped working.
