The singer Tina Charles provided vocals for the single, but she was not publicly acknowledged because of contractual problems.

Tony Eyers and Martin Jay formed the band, but when the song became successful, Tina Charles was the primary vocalist even though she was not officially part of the band.

Tina did so many songs during that period with “fire” in the title that she even toured radio stations on top of a fire engine to promote them.
